Here's a bit of information about the "face behind the illustrations"..

My name is Kristel Steenbergen, I'm a freelance illustrator working and living in Haarlem, the Netherlands. I was born in a small village right on the coast of Kenya. My father was a doctor of the local hospital and my mother assisted him by helping patients get back on their feet. Since then I have lived in several African, Asian and European countries. At the moment I enjoy living in Haarlem but I'll see where life will take me next.

I've always been kind of a geek when it comes to drawing and art. I love pencils and paper. With my passion for drawing I went to the art academy in Groningen and graduated in 2004, illustration being my major.

I couldn't wait to get started so I moved to Noordwijk aan Zee and rented the smallest studio in the world. From there things got rolling.

My work is inspired by what I have seen and done. I consider myself lucky to have lived in many parts of the world. My work reflects these variety of experiences and inspirations. The illustrations are mostly smooth lined, colourful, and the result of merging work by hand with my friendly computer. In the past years I have also grown an interest in graphic design and work as a freelance graphic designer for CosmoGIRL! and MAMA magazine.

So, that's me in a nutshell. I hope you like my work and if you are interested don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for visiting!

Kristel
